MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said three people have been charged in connection with a suspect vehicle detectives said was used during a car break-in that led to a deadly shooting.
Xavier King, Tredairious Willis, and Jakarius Ishmon are each charged with arson, accessory after the fact and tampering with evidence. Investigators said the three were connected to the vehicle used in the crime before the car was set on fire.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said 48-year-old Fernando Jones was shot multiple times Oct. 21, 2024, just before 3 a.m. 7000 block of Cutter Mill Road in southeast Shelby County. They said Jones had confronted suspects trying to break into a vehicle on his property.
Investigators said Jones reportedly saw several people trying to break into a vehicle in his driveway when he opened the front door and yelled. He was then shot "numerous times."
Investigators said a car involved in the shooting was later found destroyed by fire.
According to the police affidavit, King, Willis, and Ishmon were identified on video getting gas in a gas can the same night as the shooting. Investigators said video 15 minutes later showed King and Willis setting the stolen white Honda Accord on fire.
The affidavits said all three admitted to the arson under questioning.
According to the affidavit, charges could be coming for the murder.
