MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is dead after a "workplace accident" occurred Thursday morning at the Riviana Foods manufacturing site in South Memphis.
Officers with the Memphis Police Department responded to an ambulance call Aug. 29, 2024, around 6 a.m. at 2314 S Lauderdale, where police found a man who was pronounced dead.
Investigators said preliminary information indicates this was a workplace accident.
A death investigation is underway.
Tim Gyovai, Plant Manager at Riviana Foods, issued the following statement Aug. 30:
“Yesterday morning an employee at Riviana Foods’ plant in Memphis tragically lost his life. We are deeply saddened and our hearts go out to his family, friends and colleagues grieving this devastating loss. The plant is currently closed and we have grief counselors available to employees to provide support during this very difficult time. The safety and well-being of our employees is a top priority and a full investigation is underway. We are in contact with the employee’s family and are supporting them and our employees in this time of profound sadness and grief.”
