Man impersonating a police officer apprehended, Marshall County Sheriff's Department says

The Marshall County Sheriff's Office thanked everyone in the community for help and support "which has allowed us to successfully apprehend this individual."

MARSHALL COUNTY, Miss — The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department warned the public on Feb. 27 evening about a man impersonating a police officer and attempting to conduct traffic stops. Now, they have communicated that they've identified the man responsible and taken him into custody.

Drivers reported being stopped by an unmarked white Chevrolet Impala with an inside-the-car blue light bar just under the front windshield visors, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Police originally described the driver as a tall thin man in his 20s wearing a skull cap and a black long-sleeve tee shirt with “Police” across the chest and an earring in each ear.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Office thanked everyone in the community for help and support "which has allowed us to successfully apprehend this individual," they said.

There were possible sightings of the impersonator in the Victoria area and in the Mt. Pleasant area along Highway 311, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Officials said if you are being stopped by police but do not feel that it is safe to pull over or if you are not sure who is stopping you, call 911 and tell the operator you are being stopped and where you are, then put your four-way flashers on and slowly drive to a public or well-lit area before stopping.
