“Let me holler at you" | Man charged with stabbing woman who refused his advances, says MPD

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is charged after Memphis Police said he stabbed a woman several times after she refused his advances.

Delvontay Malone is charged with aggravated assault. He is in the Shelby County Jail on $35,000 bond.

MPD officers were called to the report of a stabbing about 4:20 a.m. on July 23, 2024, at South Bellevue and Harbert. They found a woman stabbed and she was taken to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition.

According to the police affidavit, the woman told investigators she was on South Bellevue when she was approached by a man she didn’t know, who was saying “Let me holler at you.” She told police she refused, and the man took out a knife and stabbed her in the leg three times. Investigators said a witness also saw the stabbing happen.

Officers found the suspect, identified as Malone, at Lamar and Heywood. The affidavit said officers found an open bloody pocketknife in his hoodie pocket and he had blood on his shirt.

Investigators said under questioning, Malone only admitted to being on Bellevue with the victim and asking her for money.
