MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police said a hotel on Lamar Ave. has been closed as a nuisance after complaints about gangs, drugs, and violent crimes.
MPD said officers with the Organized Crime Unit (OCU) closed the Economy Hotel at 3896 Lamar Ave. about 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, 2024.
MPD leaders said from August 2022 to August 2024, officers responded to 996 calls and took 172 offense reports about crimes at and around the hotel. They said the crimes included robberies, burglaries, drugs, car thefts and burglaries, aggravated assaults, DOAs, and weapons.
In that same two-year period, MPD officials said officers made 41 arrests.
MPD said the court issued a temporary injunction against the hotel on Thursday, Nov. 21, temporarily closing it and declaring it a public nuisance.
