MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are investigating after they said a woman was shot while asleep in her bed.

MPD officers responded to the shooting just after 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024, in the 2600 block of Amy Ln. in the Covington Hills Apartments.

The victim told investigators she had been asleep when she heard gunfire outside her apartment bedroom. She told officers she woke to find she had been shot in the leg. She said she fell to the floor and yelled for her daughters.

The daughters told police the gunfire woke them up and then they heard their mother calling for them. The woman was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.

Investigators said they found bullet holes that appeared to be from a rifle in the victim’s living room and bedroom wall. They said a fragment of the bullet that hit the woman was found in the victim’s closet.

Police said another resident flagged them down and said she had just returned home when he walked into his apartment and found two bullet holes in the living room wall.

Investigators said they found 10 bullet casings on Battle Creek Dr. behind the apartments.
