MEMPHIS, Tenn. — UPDATE 12/1/2021 - A West Memphis, Arkansas, woman has been indicted in a deadly shooting this summer that began with an online fight between the suspect’s sister and a 13-year-old girl.
A Shelby County Grand Jury indicted 24-year-old Shakenya Iman Poney on one count of second-degree murder and three counts of attempted second-degree murder. She is free on $350,000 bond.
According to the Shelby County District Attorney General’s Office, about 1:00 a.m. on July 24, 2021, Poney drove up to the Cleaborn Pointe at Heritage Landing townhomes and confronted a group of women. Witnesses told investigators that Poney fired several shots, killing 64-year-old Clara Wismon. They said Poney fired at three others, including Wismon’s 13-year-old granddaughter, before driving away.
Poney was charged and arrested two days later by the U.S. Marshals Service.

7/24/2021 - Memphis Police are investigating after a woman was found killed overnight.
Officers were called to a shooting about 2:00 a.m. Saturday in the 400 block of S. Lauderdale. They found a woman dead at the scene.
Investigators said the suspect was possibly known to the victim, and the death may have stemmed from an ongoing argument.
No one has been arrested.
