Memphis Police say man shot himself as TACT officers closed in to arrest him in recent shooting

The man, whom MPD said was wanted in a November shooting, was taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police said a man is in critical condition after shooting himself as officers tried to serve a warrant on him.

MPD said just before 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, officers spotted a man wanted for in a November shooting. They said they spotted the man in a vehicle in the 900 block of Getwell Rd.

Investigators said the aviation unit saw the vehicle stop behind a house in the 1700 block of Echles Street. MPD said when the TACT unit approached the vehicle, the man was inside and had shot himself.

The man was taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition.

Investigators said the man, whose name they have not released, was wanted for attempted first degree murder, aggravated assault, and domestic assault in a shooting on Nov. 24 in the 1200 Block of Hickory Ridge Drive.
