MPD searching for suspects who fired at truck driver while stealing chicken

The driver told police he was asleep in the cab when he discovered several men unloading boxes of frozen chicken from the truck and putting them in their vehicles.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are searching for suspects they said fired shots at a truck driver as they were caught stealing chicken.

MPD officers responded to a robbery call about 6:40 a.m. Dec. 6, 2023, in the 3300 block of Pearson Rd. not far from Lamar Ave. in southeast Memphis.

A truck driver told investigators he was asleep in the cab of his truck when he felt movement coming from the trailer. He said he got out to investigate and found several men unloading boxes of frozen chicken from the truck and putting them in their vehicles.

Police said when the driver confronted the thieves, one of them tried to rob him and then fired at him several times as he ran away.

Investigators said the suspects were possibly in a black Buick Regal and a silver Honda Pilot.
