Employee dead after shooting near Amazon Distribution Center on E. Holmes

On Thursday, officers said they responded to the shooting at Holmes Rd. and Tchulahoma Rd.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police said a man is dead after a shooting near the Amazon Distribution Center on E. Holmes Road

On Thursday, around 8 p.m., officers said they responded to a shooting at Holmes Road and Tchulahoma Road.

A man was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. Amazon confirmed the man was a company employee.

The suspect is a man between the ages of 20-30 years old wearing all black clothing, according to MPD.

Amazon spokesperson Steve Kelly said the company implemented a shelter-in-place order after the incident happened until police gave the “all-clear.” Employees were then sent home with pay, and those scheduled to start work just after midnight had their shifts cancelled but will still receive pay. Counseling resources will become available to anyone wanting them.

Amazon also released the following statement:

We’re deeply troubled by this terrible incident and doing what we can to support our employee’s family and our team. This is an active investigation, and we’re cooperating with the Memphis Police Department so we defer further comment to them at this time.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 901-528-CASH with tips.
