MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police have issued a warrant for a man they said intentionally rammed an MPD squad car while trying to get away from officers.

MPD investigators said it all began just after 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 8, 2024, when officers spotted a Camaro near Knight Arnold Rd. and Perkins Rd. “Officers ran the tag as Camaros are frequently stolen, and the license plate was not on file,” said an MPD release.

Investigators said officers attempted to perform a traffic stop, but the driver sped away, and they did not chase.

About 30 minutes later, MPD said officers spotted the Camaro in a driveway in the 5200 block of Honeywood Ave. When officers tried to stop the driver from taking off, they said he rammed an MPD marked patrol car with an officer inside. They said another officer commanded the driver to stop the car and get out, but the driver took off from the scene. MPD said the officer also spotted a weapon inside the Camaro.

About 9:45 a.m. the next day, police said they learned the Camaro was parked behind a home in the 3000 block of Meadows Lane. They said they recovered the vehicle, which had front-end damage, and identified the driver as Rashawn Gray.

Gray, 23, is wanted for aggravated assault on a first responder, evading arrest in a vehicle, and reckless driving.

Anyone with information on where Rashawn Gray can be found is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
