MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Charges have been dismissed for a woman Memphis Police said carjacked an Uber driver early one morning, according to court records.
The 27-year-old had been charged with carjacking. According to court records, the charge was dismissed "Nolle Prosequi" on Sept. 4.
(Note regarding "Nolle Prosequi" dismissals from the Shelby County D.A.'s Office: "It is crucial to remember that a case's dismissal in general sessions does not necessarily indicate that it is concluded. A judge may dismiss a case in general sessions for several reasons but this does not preclude the DA’s Office from seeking an indictment.")
MPD investigators said the Uber driver picked up the woman about 4:25 a.m. June 12, 2024, in the 5200 block of Summer Ave. The driver told police the woman didn’t have a destination and just wanted to ride and listen to music. When the driver returned her to the previous location, police said the woman forced the driver out of the car and took off in it.
Memphis investigators said about 1:30 p.m., officers stopped the stolen car during a traffic stop at I-40 and Sycamore View. They said the woman was driving and the only one in the car.
