MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Shelby County Grand Jury has indicted a Memphis woman who once ran the Mimi Morton boutique in Germantown on charges of stealing nearly $650,000 from a former employer.

Court records show Ivey Jennings was indicted Aug. 13 on charges of theft of property $250,000 or more and identity theft. She is out of jail on $60,000 bond.

According to the court affidavit, Jennings worked as a personal assistant for a woman who first came forward on Nov. 8, 2023. The woman told investigators she found between December 2019 and November 2023, Jennings used her access as an assistant to make several transactions at several stores and bought a Lexus using the employer’s bank account and credit cards.

The affidavit said Jennings spent $40,600 on a Lexus SUV, bought $295,913.37 worth of items from various stores, and spent $310,122.13 on wholesale website Faire.com without the employer’s permission.

Investigators said records showed Jennings titled the new Lexus under her business name, Mimi Morton LLC.

According to the Mimi Morton Facebook page, a ‘pop-up’ storefront at Saddlecreek in Germantown closed at the end of September 2023, and website MimiMorton.com was relaunched in November. As of April 3, 2024, a message on the Mimi Morton website said the store is currently unavailable.
