MLGW truck stolen in East Memphis, MPD searching for suspect

An MLGW technician told police a man jumped in his car while he was outside working a water meter.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), a man stole an MLGW truck in East Memphis on Thursday.

Around noon, officers said they responded to a call on the 4900 block of Briarcliff Rd.

An MLGW technician told police that he was working a water meter, and his truck was parked but still running, powering the water pump that was plugged into the front of it, police said.

The technician said a man then got into the truck and began driving it westbound on Briarcliff. He said the man was wearing a black toboggan, according to MPD.

The truck contained a laptop, radio and equipment, and it is altogether valued at around $75,000, police said.

According to MPD, MLGW personnel were able to track the radio in the truck, and its last known location was in the area of 83 S Highland St. Later, the radio went offline, police said.

Memphis Police have been unable to find the stolen truck and have no additional information about the suspect.
