MPD arrests two people after a shoplifting attempt turned into a police chase

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police arrested two suspects after responding to a shoplifting call that led to a police chase Tuesday night.

Officers responded to a call at 4381 Kirby Road just after 8 p.m. Police tried to arrested the suspects when they drove away and attempted to hit an officer with their vehicle. That officer was not hurt in the attempt.

MPD pursued the vehicle to I-40 and Jackson where the suspects crashed into the median. The two suspects ran from the vehicle and were later arrested. 

One suspect was transported to Regional One in non-critical condition. 

MPD recovered and valued the stolen products at more than $1,000.

Octavious Jenkins, 33, was charged with Theft of Property ($1,000-$2,500), Aggravated Assault, Evading Arrest in a Vehicle, and Evading Arrest on Foot. He is set to appear in court Thursday morning.

Lorenzo Buckley, 31, was charged with Theft of Property ($1,000-$2,500).

MPD is still investigating the situation.
