MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police Department (MPD) officers are investigating what they call a gun fight on South Main Street.
MPD officials said that officers responded to a shooting in the 477 block of South Main St. at 7:45 p.m.
Officers arrived on the scene and spoke with 2 victims, who reported that they were walking southbound when they heard gunshots. They told police they took cover behind a planter box. One of the victims discovered she had been grazed on the left side of her head and shot in her right foot, while the other victim saw a black Challenger and a silver sedan shooting at each other.
The injured victim was taken to Regional One Health and is listed in non-critical condition.
The victims were outside of the ARRIVE Memphis hotel when the shooting took place, MPD officials said.
Officers located a crime scene near the intersection of S Main St and Butler Avenue, where shell casings were found. Witnesses confirmed hearing shots and seeing a black Challenger and a blue Challenger traveling southbound on Main St, with suspects shooting westward toward the intersection of S Main St. and Nettleton St.
During the investigation, officers canvassed the area and found that a business at 431 S Main St. had been struck by gunfire. The owner confirmed he has surveillance cameras that captured the incident. The general manager of Arrive Hotel at 477 S Main St. also stated they have video surveillance and will provide footage.
The black Dodge Challenger fled from the scene and was recovered at S. Second St. and MLK Ave. unoccupied with several bullet holes. MPD officials said that the vehicle has been determined as stolen.
The silver sedan involved in the shooting fled south on Main St., and investigators believe one of the suspects is injured. Officers responded to a report from MFS Brewing about two suspicious people; one was seen limping and appearing wounded. The suspects were seen taking a backpack they had hidden behind the business before leaving the business.
Officers had dispatch check local hospitals for gunshot wound victims, but the request came back negative.
