MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is seriously injured after a shooting happened Tuesday morning at a welcome center on I-55.
The Memphis Police Department responded to the shooting around 1:30 a.m. on July 23, 2024 at the Tennessee Welcome Center, just north of East Raines Road. Officers found a man outside with with a gunshot wound to the stomach.
The victim told investigators that he was walking on the interstate when someone in a silver Infiniti on the interstate fired one gunshot at him and then continued to drive north. The man said he did not know the suspect.
He was taken to a hospital in non-critical condition, but later went into critical condition while at at hospital, investigators said.
Police are still searching for the suspect.
