MEMPHIS, Tenn — Two teen boys are facing charges after a robbery at a McDonald's led to a police-involved car crash near the Orange Mound area early Monday morning.
The teens were both charged with aggravated robbery, evading arrest (Auto), and theft of property worth $10k-$60k for stealing a vehicle.
The Memphis Police Department (MPD) said the incident occurred Oct. 16 around 3:30 a.m. at Lamar Avenue and Semmes Street, where suspects of a robbery crashed into an MPD squad car while evading police.
The suspects, a 15-year-old boy and 16-year-old boy, tried to run from officers after the crash, but both boys were caught and placed into custody, according to Memphis Police. They were then taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in non-critical condition and released from the hospital later that morning. They were then taken to juvenile court.
The officer involved in the crash was taken to a hospital in the area in non-critical condition.
MPD said the teenage boys are suspects of a robbery that occurred in the 3000 block of Mendenhall Road at a McDonald’s moments earlier.
Officers responded to the robbery around 3:20 a.m., just before the crash. MPD said officers were told that several males in a silver Infiniti SUV came through the drive-thru, one of them exiting the car and pointing a weapon at an employee, causing all the employees to run.
The suspects then stole cash from the McDonald's safe and left. MPD found the suspects' car soon after sending out a broadcast regarding the robbery. The MPD-involved crash occurred shortly afterward.
No McDonald's employees were injured.
MPD said the SUV had been stolen from Millbranch Road on Sunday, Oct. 15.
There are no other suspects at this time, according to MPD.
