Overnight shootings leave 1 dead and 5 injured, MPD says

The Memphis Police Department is investigating five separate shootings that left a total of one man dead and five others injured Monday night into early Tuesday.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is dead and five others are injured after five shootings happened Monday night into early Tuesday, Memphis police say.

Range Line Road shooting - May 27 at 11:27 p.m.

The Memphis Police Department responded to this Frayser shooting call in the 2700 block of Range Line Road. Investigators said two men injured from the shooting were found in the 1000 block of Jackson Avenue and taken to Regional One Health in critical condition.

Police did not release information about any suspects. 


Cromwell Avenue shooting - May 28 at 12:15 a.m.

Memphis Police officers responded to a call Cromwell Ave and Edison Cove where three different victims told officers they heard shots fired and saw six different man, half of them with face masks.

Two of the victims informed MPD that around half an hour before they heard gunshots at their home nearby and that bullets were fired at their bedroom, hitting their bedroom closet.

One of the victims also told MPD, that, once outside, they had heard someone yelling that they had been shot, but couldn't see the person who was asking for help. As they were trying to find the person shot, they were shot at. The person who shot at them then ran away.

Nearby, at Winchester Road, around 12:30 a.m., MPD officers took a man armed with a Glock into custody and charged him with evading arrest and resisting official detention.

Caradine Street shooting - May 28 at 12:18 a.m.

The Memphis Police Department responded to this Highland Heights shooting call in the 3100 block of Caradine Street. Police said a man had left the scene and arrived at Methodist North Hospital by a private vehicle. He was moved to Regional One Health in critical condition.

According to investigators, the suspects were riding a dark sedan. 

St. Elmo Avenue shooting - May 28 at 1:11 a.m.

The Memphis Police Department responded to this Frayser shooting in the 2100 block of St. Elmo Avenue. There, officers found a man hurt. He was taken to Regional One Health in critical condition. 

According to investigators, the man knew the suspect.


Durham Avenue shooting - May 28 at 3:12 a.m.

The Memphis Police Department responded to this Frayser shooting in the 2500 block of Durham Avenue, where officers found a man who was pronounced dead.  According to investigators, another man had been grazed and was medically treated on scene. 

Police did not release any information about a suspect.
