MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The "Sea of Blue" in memory of fallen Memphis Officer Demetrice Johnson will take place the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 14.
The ceremony is set to begin at 8 p.m. at 7289 Stage Road at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Memphis Police Department officials announced Monday.
Johnson was killed Friday, August 2, when a driver who had previously been shot crashed into his cruiser. The driver also died. Another officer inside the cruiser was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
The week following the incident, MPD announced funeral arrangements for Johnson, the details of which can be viewed HERE.
MPD released the following details on the procession:
Exit the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church parking lot and go east on Highway 64 to Appling Road. Turn south on Appling Road to I-40 (West). Turn west on I-40 to I-240. Proceed south on I-240 to the Crump Boulevard exit. The procession will merge on East E.H. Crump Blvd and go westbound to South Danny Thomas Boulevard. Proceed north on South Danny Thomas Boulevard to Poplar Avenue. Turn west on Poplar Avenue to B.B. King Boulevard. Turn north on South B.B. King Boulevard to Jackson Avenue. Proceed west on Jackson Avenue to North Main Street. Proceed north on North Main Street, passing the North Main Station. All cars will continue past the station where the Sea of Blue will end.
Officer Johnson served with the Memphis Police Department for just over a year, graduating from the Memphis Police Department Training Academy in March 2024. He was assigned to North Main Station.
