New Jersey fugitive arrested in Memphis for sexual assault of a child

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Team arrested a New Jersey man who was wanted for the aggravated sexual assault of a child on Wednesday Oct. 1, 2024.

A warrant for the arrest of Siamel Alberto Perez, 34, was issued on Sept. 23, 2024. He was charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. Investigators with the USMS New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force eventually developed information suggesting that Perez was possibly in the Memphis area, prompting the USMS to request the help of the Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force to help find and arrest Perez, according to the USMS. US Deputy Marshalls and Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies spotted a car with a New Jersey license plate at Sleep Inn Suites off American Way and Perkins Road on Oct. 1 according to a press release. Perez was arrested shortly after as he was seen walking out of the hotel toward the parking lot, according to officials.

Perez was arrested and transported to the Shelby County Jail to await extradition.
