New mobile camera system headed to Hickory Hill to help deter crime, keep shoppers safe

25 Sky Cop cameras will be installed across the Hickory Hill community based on need, with the money coming out of the county investment fund.

SHELBY COUNTY, Tennessee — A new mobile camera system is headed to Hickory Hill to help deter crime and keep Memphians safe as we head into the holiday season.

Shelby County Commissioner Miska Clay Bibbs unveiled the investment at a town hall tonight, with the money coming out of the county investment fund.

25 Sky Cop cameras will be installed across the Hickory Hill community based on need.

In addition, there will be a large retail camera that will be rotated around to different critical areas.

“Retail cameras are those big large cameras you see this time of year. [They are] really large [and] have lights at the top that are anchored in large shopping areas so people can feel safe when they do Christmas shopping [and] holiday shopping,” Bibbs said.

The commission is seeking public input on where best to place the cameras, and there will be more chances in the future to make your voice heard.

Bibbs is hopeful the commission will be granted more money next year to purchase even more.
