Officer shoots, kills man after traffic stop in Collierville, TBI says

TBI said reports indicate officers with the Collierville Police Department made a traffic stop in response to a speeding vehicle at Poplar Ave. and Schilling Blvd.

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — An officer shot and killed a man in Collierville after police responded to a traffic stop Sunday night, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations (TBI).

The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. on March 3. TBI said preliminary reports indicate officers with the Collierville Police Department made a traffic stop in response to a speeding vehicle at Poplar Avenue and Schilling Boulevard.

During the stop, a fight occurred between an officer and the driver. At one point, the man grabbed for one of the officers' gun, then another officer fired his weapon, hitting the man. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities identified the man as 30-year-old Antwon Booker. 

TBI is still investigating the shooting and do not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents.
