Man charged after shooting injured one at Oxford, Mississippi, hotel

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An Oxford, Mississippi, man is charged after police said a person was shot during a robbery at a hotel.

Oxford Police said Christopher Suggs Jr., 18, is charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault.

OPD officers responded to a call about gunshots in a hotel room on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024. When they got there, they said they found no one in the room.

Police said a short time later, they were called to Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi about a victim who arrived who had been shot. That person is expected to recover.

Investigators said they learned several people had been at the hotel in the room in question. They said there was a confrontation, and Suggs pulled out a gun and demanded money. Investigators said that led to a struggle and shots being fired.

Suggs was arrested two days after the shooting on Oct. 22.

“I’m incredibly proud of the diligent work of our officers and investigators. Thanks to their dedication and quick action, we were able to bring this case to a resolution in less than 48 hours. Their commitment to keeping our community safe is evident in the way they handled this investigation,” said Chief Jeff McCutchen.
