Memphis Police looking for suspects in a series of thefts from delivery trucks

Police said at least four different delivery trucks have been hit over a two day period.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Department (MPD) is looking for suspects who may be involved in stealing packages from several delivery trucks across the area.

MPD officers responded to a first report about 1:34 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023, in the 600 block of Hilyard in the New Pathways neighborhood.

Investigators said a UPS delivery driver told them he was delivering packages when six men wearing jogging suits and medical masks jumped into his delivery truck and started stealing packages. The driver said each suspect took around 10 packages, about 60 in total, according to MPD.

The driver told police the suspects drove away in four different cars - red, white, grey, and khaki sedans - westbound towards Tate Ave. and Boyd St. Officers said they drove around the area but could not find the thieves.

A short time later, about 2:15 p.m., officers were called to the 300 block of Danny Thomas Blvd. in the Forum Flats.

Investigators said a FedEx driver told them she had parked and was delivering to the second floor, and when she returned, a red Nissan sedan and a beige sedan with about eight suspects had blocked her truck in. She told police three suspects went into the cab and forced open a locked door into the cargo area, where they took about nine packages.

The driver told police the suspects, who were all in masks and hoodies, took off in four vehicles eastbound on Vance.

Investigators said video showed the four vehicles following the FedEx truck onto the property and taking off after the theft. Police said the video showed a red Nissan, tan Chevy Malibu, a black Infiniti sedan with a damaged driver side rear window and a silver Infiniti two door coupe.

Then about 3:45 p.m., officers responded to another call in the 300 block of Williamsburg Ln. An Amazon driver told investigators he delivered a package the the address about an hour earlier, and as he was walking away, he saw three suspects in a black Infiniti G37 start to unload the cargo off the Amazon Van.

Police said the man tried to stop them, but the suspects told him to get back, and then proceeded to steal 25 to 30 packages.

The suspects were described as 20-25 years old, wearing all-black clothing, ski masks, and gloves.

The next day (Dec. 15) about 1:10 p.m., police officers responded to a prowler call in the 400 block of Tennessee St. A FedEx driver told them when he parked, about five suspects jumped out of a blue Infiniti SUV and a black Infiniti sedan and stole seven packages from his truck, then took off northbound on Tennessee St.
