New charges
According to court records, new charges of carjacking and possession of a firearm were added after the original charges. The affidavit for that case said on Nov 6, 2023, a man told police he was carjacked outside of the Food Mart in the 3000 block of E. Shelby Dr. Investigators said Gause had the keys to the car stolen in this carjacking when he was arrested in the second one.
The carjacking & chase that led to arrest
According to the other court affidavit, Monday night, Nov. 6, 2023, a woman reported to police an armed man carjacked her in the 3200 block of Shelby Dr. and took her 2023 Dodge Challenger.
Minutes later, officers spotted the stolen car at Castalia and Cloverdale, and tried to stop the driver. The affidavit said the driver took off but then crashed in the 2000 block of Southern Ave. near Castalia St. Investigators told ABC24 at the time that both the stolen car and the MPD squad car left the road, landing on the train tracks, and the Challenger then caught on fire.
The driver. identified as Gause, was taken into custody. MPD said at the time of the crash he suffered minor injuries. They said the officer involved in the chase was not injured.
According to the affidavit, investigators found a loaded Glock with an added machine gun conversion device that turned it into a fully automatic weapon. They said Gause was identified in a photo line-up.
