Man arrested and charged for stabbing pregnant woman

The woman told police she had been arguing with her child's father in a home on West Lexington Circle when their fight escalated early Friday morning.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing that left a pregnant woman in critical condition.

Jeremiah Dean, 27, is charged with attempted second-degree murder in the stabbing of his pregnant girlfriend, as stated in the affidavit. He is currently in the Shelby County Jail on $100,000 bond.

The Memphis Police Department (MPD) first responded to an aggravated assault call Aug. 30 just before 3 a.m. on West Lexington Circle.

Police were sent to the 1000 block of North Watkins Street, where they found a stabbed woman, who said she was nine months pregnant.

She told investigators she had been arguing with her boyfriend in a home on West Lexington Circle when the fight escalated. The father picked up a knife, deflated an air mattress, then stabbed her in the right side of her stomach and left hand.

The mother ran to North Watkins Street to find help. Dean fled the scene before officers arrived.

First responders took the woman to Regional One Health in critical condition.

The severity of the injuries inflicted on the woman required her to undergo major life saving surgery, according to the affidavit.

Investigators found one small drop of blood on an air mattress in the home but could not find the suspect nor the weapon at the scene.

The affidavit details the victim's life-threatening injuries and her statement, which together provide sufficient probable cause to believe that Dean committed the crime.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
