MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Court records show a judge has dismissed charges for a man accused in a stabbing that left a pregnant woman in critical condition.
According to court records, charges of attempted second-degree murder against the 27-year-old man were dismissed Oct. 3, 2024, due to "lack of prosecution."
(Note regarding dismissals from the Shelby County D.A.'s Office: "It is crucial to remember that a case's dismissal in general sessions does not necessarily indicate that it is concluded. A judge may dismiss a case in general sessions for several reasons but this does not preclude the DA’s Office from seeking an indictment.")
The Memphis Police Department (MPD) first responded to an aggravated assault call Aug. 30 just before 3 a.m. on West Lexington Circle.
Police were sent to the 1000 block of North Watkins Street, where they found a stabbed woman, who said she was nine months pregnant.
She told investigators she had been arguing with her boyfriend in a home on West Lexington Circle when the fight escalated. She said the father picked up a knife, deflated an air mattress, then stabbed her in the right side of her stomach and left hand.
The mother ran to North Watkins Street to find help. Dean fled the scene before officers arrived.
First responders took the woman to Regional One Health in critical condition. The severity of the injuries inflicted on the woman required her to undergo major life saving surgery, according to the affidavit.
Investigators found one small drop of blood on an air mattress in the home but could not find the suspect nor the weapon at the scene.
