Officer injured after second MPD-involved crash on Semmes this week occurs in Cherokee

MPD said the incident happened Friday just before 1 a.m. at Kimball Avenue and Semmes Street, near the Cherokee Elementary School.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A crash involving a Memphis Police officer occurred early Friday morning in the Cherokee area. 

MPD said the incident happened Oct. 20 just before 1 a.m. at Kimball Avenue and Semmes Street, near the Cherokee Elementary School, where a driver had ignored a red light and then crashed into an MPD car.

The officer was taken to a hospital in non-critical condition. The passenger in the other involved vehicle was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in non-critical condition. 

The driver at fault was issued a misdemeanor citation for driving while license is suspended, revoked or canceled, disregarding a red light, financial responsibility, seat belt law, and violation of state registration. 

This is the second crash that has involved an MPD officer on Semmes Street this week.
