MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Southaven woman is charged with the murder of a child after the child’s death, DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton confirmed to ABC24.
Barton said Jessica Tabor is charged with capital murder after the Friday morning incident. According to DeSoto County Jail information, Tabor is being held without bond and has a court date on March 27.
“It’s a heart wrenching situation, and we are respecting the privacy of those most impacted by this painful loss," said Barton in a statement. "Southaven is an elite department, and we defer to their work during this investigation and will not release information before them.”
What happened is unclear. Southaven Police told ABC24 they responded to a call about an unresponsive person. When they got there, investigators said they found the “unresponsive individual” was dead. They said they identified a suspect and that the two were known to each other.
In a response to inquiries, Southaven Police said, “This incident is a difficult situation for the family and for the officers involved, and as such, we will not be releasing the names or ages of the victim or the suspect until a more appropriate time. Thank you for your understanding and patience.”
Though Southaven Police did not release the name, Barton confirmed the suspect to ABC24.
