Person dead after shooting led to police chase in Southaven

SOUTHAVEN, Miss — A person is dead after slamming into two police cars during a chase in Southaven early Friday morning. 

Southaven Police responded to the shooting call Nov. 8, 2024, around 2 a.m. at the North Creek Apartments, where police said a suspect had fired shots at another person. When officers arrived in the area, the suspect was driving away and hit a police car while trying to escape, according to investigators.

Officers then gave chase, following the suspect west on Stateline Road. Police said the suspect began driving "erratically" during the chase and slammed into a police car once again, causing the suspect to drive off the road and crash into the woods. 

The suspect died due to serious injuries. Investigators are not releasing the suspect's identity as of now.

Investigators said Stateline Road between Highway 301 and Horn Lake Road will be closed for an "extended period" of time while police work. People are asked to avoid the area.
