SOUTHAVEN, Miss — Two suspects are reportedly in custody after firing gunshots at officers who then returned fire Monday morning in Southaven.
According to the Southaven Police Department, Horn Lake Police were chasing two teenagers riding a grey Nissan Altima — wanted for auto burglary and attempting to take away a motor vehicle — northbound on Horn Lake Road on March 25.
The police deployed a stop stick as the Altima drove toward Desoto Road. Despite hitting the stick, the car continued driving north on flat tires on Horn Lake Road. The suspects then turned east on Stateline Road before turning south on I-55, where they lost control and crashed into a concrete median.
There, the two suspects ran out of the car, heading across the interstate toward Hamilton Road, police said. While running, one of the suspects fired gunshots at officers, who then returned fire.
They ran into a warehouse on Hamilton Road, where a huge police presence was situated in the area. Southaven Police said no officers were shot. They have not released any word on whether a suspect was injured.
Both suspects were wearing all black, according to officials. One wore a multicolored backpack while the other had on a skull cap.
Lamottis Simms Jr., 19, is charged with conspiracy to commit murder on law enforcement and two counts of receiving stolen property, according to Southaven Police.
Franshawn Brown, 18, is charged with conspiracy to commit murder on law enforcement and two counts of Receiving Stolen Property, they said.
These suspects were in possession of a stolen Nissan Altima and stolen firearm, according to Southaven Police.
