MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The two men charged in the 2021 murder of 17-year-old Braylon Murray have accepted plea deals, according to court documents.
The robbery and shooting took place at a carwash off North Hollywood St. on Aug. 3, 2021.
Officials said Jarquez Mallory and Ozar Odell Faulkner were involved in the shooting, which killed 17-year-old Braylon Murray, a high school football player.
Faulkner was arrested on Nov. 5, 2021, while U.S. Marshals captured Mallory at a hotel in Stockbridge, Georgia outside of Atlanta in 2022.
Both were charged with first-degree murder.
On Dec. 2, 2024, both men accepted plea deals.
Mallory pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of second degree murder. He was sentenced to 15 years in the Tennessee Department of Corrections.
Faulkner pleaded guilty to solicitation-aggravated assault. He will serve a two-year sentence and get credit for time served. He was committed to the Shelby County Jail on Nov. 5, 2021.
Murray's mother founded The Braylon Murray Project, a nonprofit organization that seeks to raise awareness to gun violence in Memphis. The project has awarded scholarships to young people in the Memphis area to help pay for the next steps in their academic journey.
