MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Court records show charges have been sent to a grand jury in the cases against two of the three men arrested following a chase.

The pursuit happened after police found a car matching the description of a vehicle involved in an incident where someone fired a gunshot at an officer in North Memphis on July 19, 2024.

Court records show charges of evading arrest, theft, and possession of drug paraphernalia against 21-year-old Timothy Turner were sent to the grand jury on Aug. 19. Charges of auto burglary and more were dismissed the same day. He is in jail on $115,000 bond.

Court records show charges of theft of property, unlawful possession of a weapon, and evading arrest against 18-year-old Antonio Bland were sent to a grand jury on Sept. 4. He is out of jail on $25,000 bond each.

According to court records, charges against a third man, a 19-year-old, were dismissed "Nolle Prosequi" on Aug. 5.

(Note regarding "Nolle Prosequi" dismissals from the Shelby County D.A.'s Office: "It is crucial to remember that a case's dismissal in general sessions does not necessarily indicate that it is concluded. A judge may dismiss a case in general sessions for several reasons but this does not preclude the DA’s Office from seeking an indictment.")

The Memphis Police Department responded to the shooting incident on a Friday around 4 a.m. at Springdale Street and Matthews Avenue. Police said an officer saw a vehicle speeding in the area while heading to a service call.

The officer stopped at the intersection to see where the vehicle went. That's when the passenger of the suspect vehicle left the car and fired a shot at the officer and then drove off. The officer did not return gunshots, investigators said.

The bullet did not hit the officer nor the squad car. The suspect vehicle was a dark-colored Nissan sedan.

The following day, police were responding to a prowler call just before 3 p.m. at 5112 Park Ave, where two men riding a dark blue Nissan Maxima were reportedly breaking into vehicles. Once officers arrived, they saw the car matched the description of the vehicle involved in the incident on July 19 at Springdale Street and Matthews Avenue.

A chase soon took place, ending when the suspects crashed in the 1300 block of Salem. Three men tried to run away, but police captured them. Weapons, drugs and burglary tools were found in the suspects' possession. The car had also been stolen, investigators said.

The investigation is still ongoing.
