TBI investigating after officers shoot, kill Dyersburg man when police say he pointed gun at them

The TBI said the shooting happened around 7 a.m. Sunday at a Dyersburg home.

DYERSBURG, Tenn. — A man is dead in Dyersburg after police said he pointed a gun at officers, prompting them to shoot him early Sunday morning.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Dyersburg Police officers were responding to a man threatening to harm himself and officers at a home on Keats Street in Dyersburg around 7 a.m. Sunday. 

TBI said officers found the man at the home, who was armed with a gun. When officers tried to de-escalate the situation, TBI said the man pointed a gun at them, and the officers opened fire, killing the man. 

TBI said he was pronounced dead on the scene, and no officers were injured. TBI is currently working to learn exactly what led to the shooting.
