MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A teen is facing several criminal charges after unknowingly firing rounds from an AR-15 into a home with five kids inside.
Police responded after receiving a call, where a woman claimed several shots had been fired into her house at the 1400 block of Gleason Ave.
In a police affidavit, one victim claims she, her two children and three sisters, who are all under the age of 18, were in the bedroom when they started hearing gunshots. Then, the victim says she heard bullets coming through the family home.
When police searched the area, they found 19-year-old Teric Jones, who was sitting near a car with the trunk open and an AR-15 sticking out. Jones told police that the rifle belonged to his aunt, and he had recently been test firing it at at a makeshift target near a wooded area.
Jones told officers he did not know there was a house beyond the wooded area he was firing into. Jones faces six charges of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. He is currently out of jail on his own recognizance.
