MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said two teens are charged after a crash led detectives to a stolen car and guns. Two other suspects are still on the run.
The sheriff’s office said deputies were working as part of ‘Operation Jingle Bells’ about 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023, when they saw a silver Dodge Charger crash into a pickup truck near Hacks Cross and Winchester in southeast Shelby County.
Deputies said four suspects ran from the crash, two of them with short-barrel rifles. They said those two dropped the rifles in the road and took off in another vehicle. Investigators said the other two suspects, both 17-years-old, were caught at the scene.
Investigators said the Charger had been stolen in Mississippi, and they found three rifles (including the two dropped by the suspects), a Glock, and a key programmer. They said one of the rifles had been stolen in Memphis.
The teen suspects were taken to the Youth Justice and Educations Center. They are charged with theft of property $60,000 to $250,000, evading arrest, theft of firearm, unlawful possession of burglary tools, and criminal intent possession of fob programming equipment.
