MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It’s not the experience any visitor wants when coming to Memphis. A Weather Channel crew got an unpleasant welcome when their SUV was broken into at a midtown hotel.
The Weather Channel Photographer Charles Peek posted a picture on social media of a broken window on his SUV, saying, “Not really how I wanted to start my day in Memphis. My vehicle and 3 others were broken into at the hotel. Fortunately I take in the important things so the live drone shots with Jim Cantore on Beale street goes on.”
Memphis Police told ABC24 that they received a call about the car burglaries at the Memphian on Cooper St. just before 3 a.m. on Jan. 16, 2024. A witness told investigators they saw two suspects in the hotel parking lot casing, then breaking into cars.
Officers found four vehicles had been broken into, one of which was the Peek and Cantore’s ride.
MPD said the suspects got away in a silver Nissan Maxima or Altima. Anyone with information can call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
Later Tuesday morning, Peek posted another picture of the team on Beale Street, saying, “Flying some live drone shots with Jim Cantore this morning on The Weather Channel. I love getting to spend some time with the GOAT of weather on Beale Street but would prefer a little warmer temps.”
