MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are searching for the suspects who rammed a U-Haul truck into a beauty supply store not far from the Memphis Airport, then fired shots at a man inside.
MPD officers responded to a suspicious vehicle reported just after 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in the 3800 block of Winchester Rd. MPD said one caller told dispatch two dark-color cars and a U-Haul were behind the business. They said a second caller saw several men in hoodies outside, and the U-Haul reverse into the front door of ‘Nothing But Hair.’
Officers arrived and found a hole in the front of the business, but no one inside, at first.
Investigators said they then found a victim in a back room of the business. He told police he heard the suspects breaking in and then stealing hair. The man told police another suspect came to the back and kicked open a storage door, where they found the victim and started shooting at him. The victim told police the suspects then ran out and took off.
Police said they found 34 shell cases at the scene, and three of the businesses in the shopping area had been struck.
Investigators said surveillance video showed eight suspects in three vehicles.
Later, MPD said officers spotted the U-Haul at Hickory Hill and Plum Valley, and the driver jumped out, letting the U-Haul crash into another car. Investigators said K9 and aviation searched, but did not locate the suspects.
MPD said the three vehicles involved with the break-in were identified as the U-Haul, a black Cadillac CTL, and a silver Infinite with a sunroof.
