Three charged, including two 15-year-olds, in connection with string of Memphis carjackings

MPD said some suspects were also involved in robberies.

MEMPHIS, Tenn — Three people, including two 15-year-olds, have been arrested in connection with a string of carjackings that took place from May 22 to June 26, Memphis Police said.

The first carjacking happened May 22 at 6:55 p.m., according to MPD, when officers said they responded to Roses Discount at 1833 South Third St. Officers said the victim told them that she exited the business and was approached by a young man armed with a handgun. The suspect forced her out of her car and took her 2021 Kia Forte at gunpoint. Then, the suspect drove away in the victim’s Kia Forte, police said.

On June 26, 2024, at 11:47 a.m., officers said they responded to the second carjacking at Church's Chicken at 1868 South Third St.. Officers met with the victim, who told them that she was sitting inside her 2018 Toyota Avalon when she was approached by the suspect, asking for a dollar to buy a bottle of water. The suspect then brandished a handgun and demanded the victim get out of her Toyota. The suspect took the victim's car and drove away.

On the same day, June 26, at 1:04 p.m., officers responded to OneMain Financial at 4673 Elvis Presley Blvd. regarding an attempted carjacking where shots were fired.

The third carjacking occurred 30 minutes later at 1:35 p.m. Officers said they responded to Superlo Foods at 2269 Lamar Ave. A 2019 Chevrolet Malibu was taken during the incident.

A few minutes later, at 1:49 p.m., officers responded to the area of Lamar Ave. and Airways Blvd. regarding an accident where shots were fired involving the stolen Chevrolet Malibu.

Later that day, at 3:55 p.m., officers said they responded to the Raines Precinct regarding a robbery that had occurred at Kroger at 1212 East Shelby Dr.

At 4:26 p.m. on that day, officers responded to 571 Loraines Dr. regarding a suspicious vehicle. Officers said they located the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu that was taken during a previous carjacking.

Later, detectives identified persons of interest related to the string of carjackings and robberies, according to MPD. At 5:02 p.m., officers went to the Tulane Apartments in the 4700 Block of Haven Court in an attempt to locate the suspects responsible. Officers said they located three suspects, two of whom were juveniles, and took them into custody without incident.

MPD said they arrested two 15-year-olds.

Police said one was charged with three counts of carjacking, three counts of aggravated robbery, criminal attempt first-degree murder, criminal attempt carjacking, five counts of employment of a firearm, burglary to wit: motor vehicle, theft of property less than $2,500 to wit: firearm, and reckless endangerment evading arrest to wit: foot pursuit.

According to MPD, the other 15-year-old was charged with three counts of aggravated robbery, criminal attempt first-degree murder, criminal attempt carjacking, two counts of employment of a firearm, theft of property to wit: motor vehicle $10,000-$60,000, and evading arrest to wit: foot pursuit leaving the scene of an accident and no state driver's license.

Jer-Terrious White, 22, was arrested on aggravated assault and aggravated robbery warrants, police said.
