Travel alert issued for Friars Point due to 'random' shootings

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Coahoma County Sheriff's Office has issued a travel alert due to shootings in the Friars Point area.

The alert notes that shootings have been occurring after 8 p.m. until the early morning hours in the Friars Point area in Mississippi.

The alert said there have been multiple shootings in the highway area and Friars Point entrance.

"We suspect the shootings may be gang related," the alert reads. "However, they have been random."

The alert asks for anyone who has been or knows a victim of the shootings to contact the sheriff's office at 662-624-3085.
