MILLINGTON, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says additional charges are pending after a toddler was critically injured after nearly drowning in a swimming pool.
It happened about 7:00 p.m. Monday in the 9200 block ofSnoal Cove in Millington. Investigators say deputies arrived to find paramedicsperforming CPR on a 3-year-old girl. She was taken to the hospital in criticalcondition.
Deputies on the scene say they found another 6-year-old inthe home, which according to the affidavit, was hot and very dirty. That childwas taken to the hospital for observation.
Deputies say they found 10 dogs in kennels littered with feces,without food or water, inside the home. They say they found an eleventh dog outside,severely emaciated and covered in ticks. Animal control went to the homeTuesday morning to remove the dogs.
While searching the house to make sure no other childrenwere in danger, deputies say they found meth and a syringe in plain view. Amore thorough search turned up more drugs and paraphernalia, as well as a gunin one of the vehicles at the home.
According to the affidavit, the father of the injuredtoddler, Marlon Washington, told investigators he had gone to Walmart inRaleigh, and left the children with their other father, Edward Cammile. He toldinvestigators he returned to find his daughter face down in the pool, andpulled her out to begin CPR. He said Cammile called for an ambulance.
49-year-old Marlon Washington and 57-year-old Edward Cammileboth face charges of cruelty to animal, drug and drug paraphernalia possession,and violating bail conditions for domestic abuse.
According to another affidavit, both men had also beenarrested after a domestic abuse incident June 19th.
Again, the sheriff’s office says additional charges are pendingagainst the men.
