SENATOBIA, Miss — Two juveniles were arrested after three bomb threats were made at Senatobia schools in a seven-day span, according to authorities.
The Senatobia Police Department (SPD) said the juveniles have been charged with false report of a bomb.
The first threat happened Thursday, April 4, around 11 a.m. at the Senatobia Middle School. Both the middle and high school were evacuated, and investigators placed a 16-year-old into custody the same day.
The second one occurred Monday, April 8, around 2 p.m., and police once again asked people to avoid the area of the schools.
Two days later on Wednesday, April 10, around 2:30 p.m., a third threat was made. This time, investigators linked the suspect from Monday to this same one, and the juvenile was arrested later on Wednesday.
SPD said both juveniles are from Sardis, Mississippi.
According to the Senatobia Municipal School District (SMSD), the juveniles were not students at the district. Superintendent Chris D. Fleming released the following statement:
SMSD’s highest priority is the safety of our students and staff. We would like to thank the Senatobia Police Department and all other cooperating law enforcement agencies for their quick response, thorough investigation, and the apprehension of the suspect.
Thank you to our community for your support as we navigated this issue. Our staff moved quickly to ensure the safety of our students. Our students were responsible, ready, and respectful throughout the process. The response of our staff and students to the challenges of these past days makes us all proud to be Warriors.
SPD said it will seek restitution for the thousands of dollars in taxpayer money used in the three investigations to ensure children's safety.
