Scary video shows carjacking that left two people injured, MPD searching for three remaining suspects

Memphis Police said so far, one adult and four teens have been charged in this shooting and a series of carjackings and robberies in the city.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police have released terrifying video of a violent carjacking as they search for three suspects involved. It's one of a series of carjackings in the past week in which MPD said five suspects, four of them teens, have already been arrested.

The video is from just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, in the 3300 block of Steve Rd. near Prescott Rd. MPD officer responded to a shooting call and found two victims, one shot and the other with cuts to their head. They were taken to Regional One Hospital, in critical and non-critical condition.

The video shows the two victims were sitting in a car in a driveway when one suspect, then several others approach. The first suspect bangs on the glass of the car, then fires a shot at the window and bangs again until opening the door, as the victims struggle to get out of the car and run.

You can hear one victim yelling at the attackers as the first suspect runs after the other victim, who eventually gets on the ground. Police said the suspects took the victims’ wallets, before taking off in their car.

Investigators said three additional suspects were in a stolen gold Ford Focus and a burgundy Kia Optima which stopped on the street during the shooting and carjacking. 

Carjacking Suspects Arrested Mendenhall Road and Mt Moriah Road Report #2309031423ME MEMPHIS, TN – On September 27, 2023, at 4:19 a.m., officers responded to a carjacking at Mendenhall Road and Mt Moriah Road. Officers were advised that the victim was at a red light when a blue sedan pulled up occupied by three males. Two of the men exited the vehicle, brandished a weapon, and demanded the victim’s Ram 1500. On November 26, 2023, at approximately 4:40 p.m., officers responded to a carjacking at 2745 Airways Boulevard. Officers were advised that an uber driver was picking up four males near the Hillview Apartments and took them to Airways. When they arrived on of the passengers tapped the victim on the shoulder with a handgun and demanded money. The victim exited the vehicle and the suspects took his Dodge Journey. At approximately 5:40 p.m., officers responded to a robbery in the 3700 block of Durrand Drive. Officers were advised that the victim was walking to an apartment from his vehicle when he was struck in the back of the head. The suspects, three males and one female, exited a Dodge Journey before pistol whipping the victim and taking his wallet, keys, and his Nissan Altima. The Journey and Altima were recovered. On December 1, 2023, at 5:10 p.m., officers responded to a robbery in the 3500 block of Durrand Drive., Officers were advised that the victim was walking to an apartment when he was struck in the back of the head. When he turned three males were there and one was pointing a weapon at him. The suspects took his phone, keys, and money before leaving in the victim’s Toyota Tacoma. The vehicle was recovered. On December 2, 2023, at 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 4000 block of Berkshire Avenue. Officers located a male victim who was transported to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. Officers were advised that the victim was approached by two males and words were exchanged. The victim ran and was shot several times. The males fled the scene. At 11:01 p.m., officers responded to an attempted carjacking in the 3500 block of Midland Avenue. Officers were advised that the suspect approached a Kia Optima occupied by two victims and began striking the window with the butt of a gun. The suspect demanded the victims exit the can and they did. However, the suspect was unable to drive the car away and ran to a dark sedan and fled. At 11:25 p.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 3300 block of Steve Road. Officers located a victim with a gunshot wound and a victim suffering from lacerations to the head. Both were transported to Regional One hospital, one critical and one non-critical. Officers were advised that several males approached the victims with firearms and demanded they exit a Nissan Altima. The suspects took the victim’s wallets, shot one, and struck another before fleeing in the victim’s car. There were three additional suspects occupying a stolen gold Ford Focus and a burgundy Kia Optima that were stopped on the street when the shooting and carjacking occurred. The video for this incident is attached as investigators are working to identify the remaining three suspects in this case. On December 4, 2023, at 11:22 a.m., officers responded to a carjacking in the 4300 block of Fizer Cove. Officers were advised that the victim was sitting in his Chevrolet Impala when a sedan blocked him in. An armed male approached him and demanded he exit the vehicle. The suspect fled in the Impala followed by the stolen gold Ford Focus. The Impala was recovered later that day. On December 5, 2023, officers located the gold Ford Focus on Steve Road and observed a female exit an apartment in the 2000 block of East Alcy and enter the vehicle. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and it fled. Officers initiated a pursuit that ended when the vehicle crashed into railing at the Hillview Apartments. Officers took the driver, Nautica Moore, into custody. The also located two males inside the apartment and took them into custody. On December 6, 2023, officers located two other involved males in the 1900 block of Gladney Circle and took them into custody. A 17-year-old male was charged with Carjacking (4X), Employment of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony (6X), Aggravated Robbery (5X), Attempted Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Theft of Property $10,000-$60,000, and Attempted First-Degree Murder (2X). A 17-year-old male was charged with Carjacking (2X), Employment of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony (2X), Attempted Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Theft of Property $10,000-$60,000. Nautica Moore, 23, was charged with Carjacking (5X), Employment of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony (7X), Attempted Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Robbery (6X), Aggravated Assault, Attempted First-Degree Murder, Attempted Second-Degree Murder, and Theft of Property $10,000-$60,000, and Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm (2X). Her bond has been set at $85,000.00. A 15-year-old male was charged with Carjacking (7X), Employment of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony (7X), Aggravated Robbery (8X), Attempted Aggravated Robbery (2X), Aggravated Assault, Theft of Property $10,000-$60,000, Attempted First-Degree Murder (2X), and Attempted Second-Degree Murder. A 16-year-old male was charged with Carjacking (5X), Employment of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony (8X), Aggravated Robbery (7X), Attempted Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Theft of Property $10,000-$60,000, and Attempted First-Degree Murder (2X). MPD investigators believe this same group was responsible for at least nine carjackings, robberies, and/or shootings on Sept. 27, Nov. 26, and Dec. 1-5. Police said one adult and four teens – ages 17, 17, 16, and 15 - have been arrested, and they are looking for three other suspects.

The one adult arrested, 23-year-old Nautica Moore, faces 25 felony charges and is in jail on $85,000 bond.
