Memphis Police searching for suspects who stole rifle and money after argument with store clerk over a declined card

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are searching for the suspects caught on camera robbing a gas station clerk after he argued with a woman over a declined card.

MPD officers responded to the robbery about 7:20 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Horn Lake Express store in the 3100 block of New Horn Lake Rd. They released video of the robbery.

Investigators said a woman had come into the store and tried to buy some items, but her card was declined. MPD said she started arguing with the clerk, then went outside and told several guys out there what happened.

Investigators said the men came into the store with the woman, and the clerk walked away from the counter to explain the card being declined. Police said that’s when one suspect walked behind the counter and grabbed money then a rifle that belonged to the clerk. Video shows the clerk try to stop the suspect and they struggled.

MPD said at the same time, one of the other suspects went behind the counter and stole more money. Investigators said the clerk tried to stop that suspect, and as they wrestled over the money, the other suspects began yelling for the man with the gun to shoot the clerk.

Investigators said the clerk ran behind the counter for safety as the suspects took off in a dark-colored Chrysler sedan and a tan Honda Civic.

Business Robbery Horn Lake Express 3135 New Horn Lake Road Report #2406026109ME MEMPHIS, TN – On Friday, June 14, 2024, at 7:20 p.m., officers responded to a business robbery at 3135 New Horn Lake Road at Horn Lake Express. Officers were advised a female suspect entered the business and attempted to purchase some items, but her debit card was declined. The female suspect began arguing with the clerk and then went outside and told several males who were with her about the incident. The males entered the business along with the female. The clerk walked away from the counter to explain the decline to the suspects. While the clerk was talking with the suspects, one of the suspects went behind the counter and stole money and a shotgun belonging to the clerk. The clerk attempted to stop the suspect but was assaulted. While the clerk was trying to deal with the suspect, who stole the shotgun and money, another suspect went behind the counter and stole more money. The clerk attempted to stop the additional suspect, but they both began wrestling over the money. All the suspects began yelling for the suspect armed with the shotgun to shoot the clerk. The clerk then retreated behind the counter for safety. The suspects fled the vehicle in a dark-colored Chrysler sedan and a tan Honda Civic. Suspect#1 was a male with a thin build and medium skin complexion, no shirt, dark-colored shorts with a red stripe on each side, blue and white socks, and white slides. Suspect#2 was male, thin built, medium to dark complexion, white and green hat, white t-shirt, blue shorts, white socks, and red shoes. Suspect#3 was a female with a medium complexion, heavy build, purple and black bonnet, white muscle shirt, black leggings, and black crock shoes. Suspect#4 was a male with a dark complexion, a low haircut, a green t-shirt with the letter C on the left side of the shirt, and blue jeans. Suspect#5 was a male with a heavy build, medium complexion, a low haircut, white shirt, dark-colored shorts, and black slides. No arrests have been made. This is an ongoing investigation.
