West Tennessee man charged with setting fires over New Year's holiday

According to the TBI, Joseph Huffman tried to set fire to buildings and a vehicle on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 in Kenton, Tennessee.

MEMPHIS, Tenn — A West Tennessee man has been indicted in a series of weekend arsons and the discovery of explosives, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

According to the TBI, Joseph Huffman tried to set fire to buildings and a vehicle on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 in Kenton, which includes both Obion and Gibson Counties. Agents joined Kenton Police, the Obion and Gibson County Sheriff’s Departments, and Jackson Police bomb squad for the investigation.

TBI agents arrested Huffman on Jan. 1, 2024, on charges in Obion County. Then on Jan. 2, he was indicted on charges in Gibson County. He faces charges of arson, attempted arson, and prohibited weapons to include an explosive.

Huffman is currently being held in the Obion County Jail without bond.
