MEMPHIS, Tenn. — According to court records, charges have been dismissed against a man in a December 2023 shooting in North Memphis that critically injured a woman after she was shot 11 times. She died three weeks later.
The suspect was originally charged with attempted first-degree murder and possessing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, according to court records. A second-degree murder charge was added Jan. 25, 2024, according to court records. He was out of jail after posting $175,000 bond. Court records then show the charges were dismissed "nolle prosequi" on March 6.
MPD officers responded to a shooting about 6:50 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023, in the 1100 block of Springdale Street. They found a woman shot, and she was taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition.
Memphis Police said the 45-year-old woman died of her injuries on Jan. 13, 2024. According to the police affidavit, the woman told investigators she had been in a fight with another woman, and that woman told her own boyfriend that the victim had hit her child.
The woman told police she was walking on Springdale when several cars pulled up, filled with people. She told investigators she recognized the other woman’s boyfriend and the suspect, who had gotten out of a car. According to the affidavit, she tried to run, but several people fired shots, hitting her 11 times, then the shooters took off.
