MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Shelby County Grand Jury is set to take up the case against a man is charged in a shooting that left a woman dead and a girl injured in South Memphis.
Je'On Davis is charged with first-degree murder and convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Davis is out of jail after posting $30,000 bond on May 3. The case was sent to the grand jury on April 29.
Memphis Police said about 6:45 p.m. on March 14, 2024, officers responded to the 1300 block of Quinn Ave. regarding a shooting.
According to the police affidavit, officers arrived and found Tamara Plummer shot. She died at the scene. Police said a girl was also taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Investigators said Davis was detained and agreed to waive his Miranda Rights. According to the affidavit, Davis said his daughter was in a fight with other kids in the area when Plummer got involved. He said he approached Plummer then walked away, and that's when another guy handed him a gun. The affidavit said Davis told investigators he walked up to Plummer and shot her about three times, then walked away and threw the gun into a nearby yard.
Investigators said in the affidavit that video showed Plummer, but that she was not pointing her weapon at anyone before Davis armed himself. The affidavit also said video showed Davis getting a gun from his own vehicle before walking back and shooting Plummer.
Investigators said Plummer had previously been convicted of aggravated battery in 2016 in Kansas City and sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison.
