MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman is injured after getting shot while waiting on an Uber at a gas station Thursday morning on South Highland Street.

The Memphis Police Department (MPD) responded to the shooting Oct. 19 around 3:30 a.m. at 853 South Highland Street at the Valero gas station. Officers found a woman with a gunshot wound in her upper right leg.

According to MPD, the woman told officers that she was waiting on an Uber behind the gas station when two suspects approached her.

Believing the men were planning to rob her, the woman pepper sprayed them. One of the men then shot her in the leg with an old looking handgun that may have possibly been a revolver. The suspects then ran away, heading north on South Highland Street.

The woman said the men were wearing backpacks and looked to be 18-25 years old.

She was taken to Regional One Health in non-critical condition.

MPD said they were not able to find the suspects.

A store clerk at the gas station told police he saw two men running at the time of the shooting.

MPD said they were working to get access to the gas station’s surveillance cameras, which would have video of the suspects.
