No longer interim, Dr. Christopher B. Davis named LeMoyne-Owen College President

“As we look to the future, I will lead LeMoyne-Owen to the next level of growth and innovation,” said Dr. Davis.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Dr. Christopher B. Davis, who has been serving as LeMoyne-Owen College’s Interim President since July 2023, is taking over the job permanently.

The LeMoyne-Owen College Board of Trustees voted Dr. Davis as the 14th President of the college, and he was announced Monday, July 8, 2024.

College leaders said under Davis’s leadership as Interim President, the school has rebranded, emphasizing its place as the nation’s fifth oldest, and Memphis’ only, Historically Black College and University (HBCU). They said he also helped to bring new sports offerings such as men’s volleyball and enhance campus facilities.

Dr. Davis also served on Board of Trustees for eight years and has more than 20 years of experience in higher learning. He also worked on Whitehaven Economic Development Council.

“As we look to the future, I will lead LeMoyne-Owen to the next level of growth and innovation,” said Dr. Davis. “LeMoyne-Owen has always been a beacon of progress in Memphis and we will continue that legacy. We will work together to address our challenges and solutions in society.”

The Board of Trustees said it decided against a nationwide search for president, citing the progress under Davis as interim.

“Dr. Davis’ service as a former Board of Trustees chair, as well as his vast experience from the business and religious sectors, give us full confidence in his ability to be a transformative leader who fosters the deeply rooted legacy of LeMoyne-Owen College,” says Vanecia Belser Kimbrow, Esq., newly elected LeMoyne-Owen College Board of Trustees chair.

Davis earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arkansas and Arkansas Baptist College and his Doctor of Ministry degree with emphasis on Preaching and Leadership from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from Anderson University. He also serves as St. Paul Baptist Church's Senior Pastor.

Starting off Monday with an exciting announcement!
