Father honors late son by helping students with class needs

Dennis told ABC24 the inspiration from DJ's Care Closet came from his son, Dennis Price Jr., who died in 2013 from a heart condition.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Dennis Price Sr. with Dennis Price Jr. Foundation is hoping to make a difference for students in MSCS by opening DJ's Care Closet. He said the purpose of this closet is to allow students inside Westwood High School a chance to grab clothes, school items or other daily products to be successful this school year.

"The way that it's designed that they would come in and just shop and get what they want or get what they need and not feel a certain way about it," Dennis said.

Dennis told ABC24 the inspiration from DJ's Care Closet came from his son, Dennis Price Jr., who died in 2013 from a heart condition. Dennis said he hopes by opening this space, he can touch the lives of students just as his son did.

"I would hope he would be proud," Dennis said. "I hope he would be as proud of me as I was of him."

Dennis said DJ's Care Closet will be opening for the first time in Westwood High School on Monday. He said each item inside of the closet is donated and is free for all students who are in need. Dennis said they plan to have a grand opening for DJ's Care Closet in a few weeks.
